As a child, Doriano loved books–his passion was reading. Soon, he began to paint and illustrate parts of stories he read, and, after his initial drawings, he decided to become an illustrator. Doriano attended the Art Institute where he learned the art of drawing and was challenged to fully develop his skills. Learning the techniques of working with color was a magical experience for him.
Doriano designed and painted for children, who reacted in a very positive way to his art. This confirmed that he could fulfill his dream of becoming a successful illustrator. Doriano thinks his best ideas for illustration and other work arrive at night. In these hours there is a magical atmosphere that shapes his imagination. Doriano would also like to further pursue his passion for miniature soldiers and sailing ship models inspired by his love of the sea–a great source of inspiration for Doriano, as he was born close to it, and enjoys looking at it from his house every day.
Doriano typically creates with pencils, brushes and crayons. He enjoys the entire physical experience of working manually with these media, feeling their consistency and smelling their fragrance. Sometimes he will also use digital tools such as Photoshop, but it is not his favorite part of the artistic process. “I remember my first character created, a child that was always moody, but when he gave me a smile, the feeling of serenity would surround me and touch my soul.” – a similar sensation that Doriano feels when walking along the local beach and looking at the immensity of the big blue of the water where the mountain Conero falls into it.
Looking back, Doriano can only think how lucky he is to have transformed his passion into his work!
