Amy Lukavics’ second novel, The Women in the Walls, is a great follow-up to her horror debut, Daughters Unto Devils. In this sophomore novel, it is easy to see that Lukavics is on her way to mastering the craft of writing the ultimate horror novel.
This story introduces readers to Lucy, a young teenage girl, living in a huge, castle-like estate with her father, aunt, and cousin, Margaret. Lucy’s aunt mysteriously disappears one day and Margaret begins having “hallucinations” where she can hear her mother’s voice and screams coming through the walls. These spells soon lead to a series of events no one can explain and Lucy’s father is unwilling to listen to Margaret’s cries for help.
Ultimately, Lucy realizes, it is her responsibility to find out what is trapping the voices in the walls and why her aunt’s disappearance coincides with the beginnings of the greatly disturbing events. Is the estate haunted? Is Margaret crazy? The realism of the characters’ plight will leave readers asking questions and questioning their own sanity.

Amy Lukavics writes with great, flowing description that propels readers deep into the story. Her writing is as shocking as it is compelling, and as lyrical as it is grotesque. This novel will resonate intensely with lovers of the paranormal and horrific. The plot is twisted and the ending is one you won’t ever see coming!
