Steven believes that any subject he is asked to illustrate demands the creation of the best images to tell the story in the most interesting way possible. He works in both traditional and digital media. Steven's storied career includes many awards, successful children's books, and work as an illustration teacher.

Your thoughts?

Working with self publishing authors gives me bit more freedom creating characters and settings. A crude sketch from the author was a far cry from what Tippy the caterpillar finally became. I was able to use Tippy to express the feelings she needed to show in “ Can The Sad Come Out”. It’s important to me that the characters I create are accurate portrayals even though they may become a bit stylized. I try to get a feeling from the text and let that lead me toward the “look” of the artwork for a story. (Digital painting)
